Learning how to start working out for beginners can be tough because it depends on a couple of things:

  • Are you looking to workout with weights?
  • Are you looking to only focus on body weight?
  • Maybe you’re just looking to start running again?
  • Maybe you’re looking for a yoga program?

Again, it all depends on what your definition of working out is.

Therefore, below, I’ve created a list of the best places to START based on a couple of different categories.

I have tried each of these programs myself and recommend them all highly.

If you want to work with weights

The first is for someone who wants to work out with weights (meaning you have access to weights or a gym).

This book changed my life and that’s because the author of the book is so great and cares about you and your success.

You can’t say that about many people in the fitness industry.

Therefore, if you’re looking for an all-around great place to start weight training, you definitely want this book.

If you want to work with your own body weight

Body weight training can be very beneficial but it does require a lot of skill and practice.

A lot of progress that is made with body weight training also depends on your current fitness level and actual body weight.

The best body weight program I’ve purchased is:

BodyWeight Burn Program

It teaches you the fundamentals, along with a lot of progression techniques as you go along. I highly recommend it.

If you want to start a yoga workout program

I’ve had back problems for years and it is one of the main reasons why I started practicing yoga everyday for the last couple of years.

The only problem with yoga programs is that they don’t burn too many calories in a session.

Your diet need to be in order if you’re looking to lose weight.

If it’s not or you’re not sure where or how to set it up, watch this video or check out this guide.

With that being said, the book “Power Yoga for Athletes” is better than most yoga programs because the workouts are TOUGH.

At least tougher than most yoga programs I’ve tried.

They aren’t tough as in you are going to be burning a bunch of calories, but as in the poses are tough.

Thankfully, he has a great progression model for each pose.

If you’re looking for a yoga program with more of a “calorie-burning” angle, check out Yoga-Burn:

If you want to start running

I’d suggest the following program for beginners and intermediate-to-advanced individuals.

This program by Rusty Moore has a great progression system based on a ton of factors and is great for dropping weight quickly.

And there you have it. How to start working out for beginners.
